Dear Virginia,

Ocker's world is not that of mortal men. While they submit to the passing of time, Ocker stands aloof and looks down upon the earth as from a star.

Ocker is old and very wise. He has seen the black spearmen catch their meal in the Noosa lake and has walked amongst the tribes at the great feast beyond the range. He has discoursed with the escaped convict and heard the call of the sea eagle as it patrols the wallum plain.

He has marvelled at the unending flocks of kangaroos darkening the evening sky as they journey to their feeding grounds on the Great Sandy Island, and bartered with the furtive Coochinese who still ply the tidal swamps in their quaint craft.

Time is as nothing to Ocker, and if the Buderim of which I speak is no longer seen by others, that is of no concern to him. That which they may see is not acknowledged, and that which was, remains.

The elves and orcs, Boozerville and Beerwah, the Ewan Maddock Dam and its notorious sea lord Captain Ernest Fludd all hold sway in the mind of Ocker.

Only as a concession to you Virginia, have I interceded in this dispute. I have not as yet received a reply from Mr Gates re the geographical anomalies, nor has the Place Names Board graced my post box with an acknowledgment of my submission. I shall now suggest to them the alternative name of "Bugerim", which should appease all parties. The exact translation of this appellation need not afflict your tender ears, child, but may conveniently be defined as the aboriginal word for "meeting place of the developers".

Virginia - fight the good fight and hold the crassness of the world at bay while you are yet armed with your burning light.

Yours etc
Ocker
